Bengaluru, July 11: A tragic incident unfolded in the KottigePalya area of Bengaluru on Saturday morning, where 34-year-old Prashant allegedly murdered three family members before taking his own life. His father, Chikkanna, expressed his disbelief, stating, “I don’t understand why my son did this. He seemed perfectly fine and mentally stable.”
Speaking to reporters, Chikkanna noted that there was no family dispute the previous night. He had left home early to open his laundry shop. “Prashant was completely normal. He worked as a driver and was living his daily life well. There was no argument at home. I left for work, and around 10 AM, I received a call informing me of the incident. I still don’t know what happened,” he said.
Chikkanna revealed that Prashant was unmarried and lived with his family. “If there had been a fight the night before, I wouldn’t have gone to open the shop,” he added.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) N. Yatish reported that the police received information about the murders and suicide between 8:30 and 9 AM in the KottigePalya area. “The police arrived promptly at the scene. Investigations revealed that five people lived in the house, including the father, mother, grandmother, brother-in-law, and son. The father had left for his shop. Neighbors reported hearing noises from the house,” he explained.
Upon entering the home, police found two bodies at the entrance and two more inside, all showing signs of being attacked with a sharp weapon. The motive behind the murders is still under investigation. “We are gathering information from family members, neighbors, and other sources. Currently, we are confirming all aspects of the case,” Yatish stated.
The suspect has been identified as Prashant, who is believed to have killed his mother, Mangalamma, grandmother, Nanjamma, and brother-in-law, Satish, before committing suicide. Mangalamma worked in a garment factory, Nanjamma was a cleaner, and Satish was a plumber.
This tragic event occurred near the Ayyappa Temple in KottigePalya, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kamakshipalya police station. The family originally hailed from Kunigal.
Senior police officials and the crime scene team have examined the site and collected evidence. The police are recording statements from relatives, neighbors, and local residents to uncover the true reasons behind this horrific incident. Further investigations are ongoing.
