Pune, June 30: A Maharashtra court has granted Pune rural police a five-day custody of Sia Goyal and Chetan Baboolal Chaudhary, who are accused of murdering 26-year-old Ketan Agarwal. The incident occurred on June 18 at Lohagad Fort.
The accused were presented in the Vadgaon Maval court on Monday as their initial police custody period ended. The police requested an extension, stating that several critical aspects of the investigation remain incomplete.
Authorities emphasized the need to recreate the crime scene in the presence of the accused, trace Chetan’s activities post-incident, investigate phone conversations after the murder, and recover evidence related to the destruction of Ketan’s passport.
According to investigators, Sia allegedly stole Ketan’s passport, tore it up, and burned it. This incident coincided with the family’s planned trip to Bali for a pre-wedding celebration from Mumbai Airport.
The police believe the passport was deliberately destroyed to prevent the couple from traveling together. The driver also testified that during the trip, Sia returned to the vehicle alone, bringing back some belongings.
On June 28, police recreated the incident at Lohagad Fort using a dummy, temporarily closing the fort to the public. Initially, Ketan’s death was thought to be an accident from a 400-foot fall, but the investigation revealed that he was allegedly pushed by Sia and Chetan. Their romantic relationship was seen as a motive, with Ketan viewed as an obstacle.
Police records indicate that over the past six months, there were more than 2,000 phone calls between the two accused, totaling approximately 238 hours of conversation, which is believed to be part of the alleged conspiracy.
The investigation also uncovered that Sia had previously attempted to harm Ketan during a visit to Lohagad Fort, where she tried to push him, but he managed to grab onto a bush. Sia later claimed she was trying to save him from a snake.
