Bihar: Suspect Arrested After Snatching Police Officers Gun During Vehicle Check

Mumbai, July 15: In Khagaria district, Bihar, a suspect was apprehended after snatching a police officer’s government-issued pistol and mobile phone during a vehicle inspection. The arrest occurred following an exchange of gunfire, resulting in the suspect being shot in the leg. He was subsequently hospitalized for treatment. The police are actively searching for other individuals involved in the incident.

Khagaria’s Superintendent of Police, Bhanu Pratap Singh, reported that the incident took place near the Purwan Kachra Bhawan in the Beldaur police station area. Late at night, a police officer and two constables were conducting checks on suspicious individuals when three young men approached them. When questioned, the suspects became agitated and attempted to assault the police team. During this confrontation, one suspect managed to flee with the officer’s service pistol and mobile phone.

Upon receiving news of the incident, the Beldaur police station informed the control room, leading to the formation of a special team under the leadership of the SDPO Gogari. This team included personnel from the District Intelligence Unit and local police, who conducted extensive search operations throughout the night. The main suspect, Akhilesh Kumar, a resident of Kurwan Ward No. 4 in Beldaur, was arrested, and the stolen pistol and mobile phone were recovered from him.

According to the Superintendent of Police, while returning with the arrested suspect, he attempted to attack the police again. Officers warned him to surrender and drop his weapon, but he ignored the instructions. In response, the police fired a warning shot, which struck the suspect in the leg. He was immediately transported to a hospital for medical care.

The Superintendent confirmed that three suspects were involved in the incident, and efforts to apprehend the remaining two fugitives are ongoing. He emphasized that the police conduct night patrols and vehicle checks to ensure public safety and will continue to take strict action against those who violate the law and assault law enforcement officers.
