Shocking Kidnapping of 8-Month-Old Baby in Bihar Resolved by Police

Patna, June 30: A shocking case of kidnapping involving an eight-month-old baby has emerged in Nalanda district, Bihar. The police acted swiftly, successfully recovering the abducted child and arresting two suspects in the process.

Initial investigations revealed that a woman had lured a young man into kidnapping the child under the pretense of marriage.

DSP Sanjeet Kumar Gupta from Rajgir reported that Mahesh Manjhi’s son, Jan Suraj Manjhi, was sleeping outside with his parents around 1 AM on June 26 when an unidentified individual abducted him. Despite extensive searches by the family, they could not locate the child.

Following this, Mahesh Manjhi filed a complaint at the Chhabilapur police station. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the Superintendent of Police in Nalanda directed the formation of a special team led by the sub-divisional police officer in Rajgir. Utilizing technical evidence and human intelligence, the police successfully recovered the child.

The arrested suspects include 30-year-old Dharmendra Kumar and Mintu Devi, both residents of Kanchanpur. During police interrogation, both suspects confessed to their crime.

According to the DSP, the baby was located based on Dharmendra Kumar’s information. The investigation revealed that Mintu Devi had promised Dharmendra Kumar a marriage in exchange for kidnapping a child from a household. This plan led to the abduction of Jan Suraj.

The police indicated that after the kidnapping, there were plans to hand the child over to another family through Mintu Devi. However, timely police action thwarted the entire scheme. Authorities are currently interrogating both suspects to uncover any additional accomplices involved and to determine the role of the family intended to receive the child. The process for sending both arrested individuals into judicial custody is underway.
