Shiv Sena Raises Alarm Over Maharashtras Law and Order, Questions Governments Silence

Mumbai, May 4: The Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray has raised serious concerns regarding the law and order situation in Maharashtra, particularly focusing on women’s safety. On Monday, they criticized the state government for its inaction amidst rising incidents of sexual violence against women and young girls. While the central government has been conducting emergency siren tests nationwide to warn citizens of disasters, the Shiv Sena claims that the “siren” of the Maharashtra government remains silent in the face of daily atrocities.

In an editorial published in the party’s mouthpiece, ‘Saamana’, the horrific case of a four-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in Nasrapur, Pune district, was highlighted. This tragic event has sparked outrage in the region, with angry locals bringing the child’s body to the streets, demanding immediate justice. Instead of addressing the crowd’s concerns, police resorted to lathi charge.

The editorial pointed out that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis apologized to the public for traffic jams during the inauguration of the ‘Missing Link’ tunnel project. It criticized the Home Department for its failure to prevent the inhumane sexual assaults on young girls in Nasrapur, Chakan, and Nagpur. The editorial called for the Chief Minister to apologize to all young girls and their mothers in the state.

The article noted a disturbing rise in incidents of assault and murder in Pune, with even the cries of women victimized in the Chief Minister’s own city of Nagpur being heard. Similar cases of atrocities have also emerged in Sangli. The government’s inaction has led to a situation where criminals no longer fear the law.

Allegations were made against Chief Minister Fadnavis, stating that as the Home Minister, he has failed to focus on law and order, preferring instead to engage in political campaigning in other states, including West Bengal, Kerala, Assam, and Tamil Nadu. While claims are made about enhancing Maharashtra’s image, the reality reflects a rise in corruption and crime, particularly concerning women’s safety.

The editorial also criticized the BJP, pointing out their strong opposition to incidents in West Bengal while advising against political commentary on events occurring in Maharashtra. It suggested that opposition parties are vocal only in states governed by rivals, while remaining silent on their own state’s issues.

Furthermore, the editorial questioned the government’s repeated promises of fast-track courts and capital punishment, asking how many offenders have actually been punished. Public anger is escalating, with citizens questioning whether mere statements can ensure the safety of children and women.

The government’s ‘Girl Sister Scheme’, which provides monthly assistance of 1,500 rupees to women, was also scrutinized. The editorial questioned whether this financial aid gives the government a free pass to neglect the safety of these women’s daughters.

It concluded by stating that if anyone should be held accountable for these incidents, it is the Home Department and the state government, which have failed to maintain law and order. This issue transcends politics; it is a matter of humanity and the dignity of women. The government is urged to publicly apologize for its failure to protect the women and children of Maharashtra, rather than just addressing traffic or administrative issues.
