Chennai, September 1: A weather system near the state’s coast is expected to bring moderate rainfall to Chennai and several other parts of Tamil Nadu over the next two days, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre.
The weather department’s latest report indicates a low-pressure area in the lower atmosphere over the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu. This system is likely to result in scattered rainfall across the northern, central, and interior districts of the state.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, light to moderate rain is forecasted for Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Tiruchi, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Salem, and Namakkal districts. This rain is expected to provide some relief from the heat in Chennai and surrounding areas. However, the rainfall is anticipated to be mostly moderate, and no significant drop in daytime temperatures is expected across the state.
The weather department also predicts moderate rain for Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Madurai, Sivagangai, and Pudukkottai districts on Wednesday and Thursday.
Rainfall conditions may vary across different areas. Despite cloudy skies, some regions may remain dry. Residents of Chennai and nearby districts should expect intermittent clouds and occasional light rain.
The mornings and evenings may be quite pleasant, while daytime heat and humidity are likely to persist.
Despite the rain forecast, maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are expected to remain above normal for the next four days. The weather department stated that daytime temperatures in some areas could rise by up to three degrees Celsius above the seasonal average.
Increasing temperatures and humidity may lead to discomfort. The high humidity could make the temperature feel warmer than the actual reading.
Currently, no warnings for heavy rainfall have been issued. However, residents are advised to stay alert for sudden rain and drivers are urged to exercise caution on wet roads. Farmers are also advised to pay attention to local weather forecasts before proceeding with harvesting, irrigation, or other agricultural activities in the coming days.
