Shefali Verma Reflects on Pressure Ahead of Crucial Match Against Bangladesh

New Delhi, June 25: The Indian women’s cricket team is set to face Bangladesh in the 23rd match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur, the team must secure a victory against Bangladesh to keep their semifinal hopes alive. Opening batsman Shefali Verma emphasized that the team has encountered similar pressure situations before, notably during last year’s ODI World Cup, and successfully made a comeback.

During a press conference, Shefali stated, “Captain Harmanpreet Kaur reminded us during the huddle that we have faced challenging circumstances before. She told us that this is not the first time we find ourselves in such a situation. Last year, we were under similar pressure and managed to come out on top. I believe a difficult situation is one that you encounter for the first time in your life.”

Shefali further added, “We accepted a similar challenge in ODI cricket and ultimately emerged victorious. We know we need to win both of our upcoming matches to advance. This requires better preparation and maintaining open communication while supporting each other as players. This time, we will reflect on how we overcame such situations previously. Every player in the team is ready for this challenge.”

After three matches, the Indian team has accumulated 4 points. A recent loss to South Africa has complicated their path. To reach the semifinals, the Indian team must win their next two matches against Bangladesh and Australia. Even with two victories, they must maintain a superior net run rate compared to South Africa. Currently, the Indian team holds the second position in Group A due to a better net run rate, while South Africa is in third place.
