
Mumbai, April 27: In Bollywood, many artists have carved a special place in the hearts of audiences through their performances. However, they often find themselves typecast in similar roles. Sharman Joshi is one such actor. Known for his impeccable comic timing, he was frequently offered comedic roles. Yet, Sharman did not want to be confined to just one type of character.
This desire led him to choose diverse roles over time, proving himself as a serious actor as well. Today, Sharman Joshi is recognized as one of the artists who has established a unique identity through hard work and talent.
Born on April 28, 1979, in Nagpur, Sharman hails from a family deeply rooted in the world of acting and theater. His father, Arvind Joshi, was a prominent figure in Gujarati theater. Growing up in an artistic environment naturally drew Sharman towards acting. Before entering films, he spent considerable time in theater, honing his craft, which later proved invaluable.
Sharman made his Bollywood debut in 1999 with the film ‘Godmother,’ but it was the movie ‘Style’ that brought him recognition. The film resonated well with the youth. He later appeared in films like ‘Excuse Me’ and ‘Shaadi No. 1,’ which showcased his comedic style and endeared him to audiences.
The year 2006 marked a significant turning point in Sharman’s career. He starred in blockbuster films like ‘Rang De Basanti’ and ‘Golmaal: Fun Unlimited.’ His character in ‘Golmaal’ had audiences in stitches. However, he soon realized that he was being perceived solely as a comedian. To change this narrative, he decided to alter his strategy and select varied roles.
Sharman did not limit himself to comedy. In ‘Life in a… Metro,’ he portrayed an emotional character. In ‘Ferrari Ki Sawaari,’ he played a simple father striving to fulfill his son’s dreams, earning widespread acclaim for his performance. Additionally, his role as Raju Rastogi in ‘3 Idiots’ remains etched in the hearts of many. This film set new success records and earned Sharman the IIFA Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Alongside films, he ventured into web series, winning audiences over with his performance in ‘Barish.’ On the personal front, Sharman Joshi is married to Prerna Chopra, daughter of veteran actor Prem Chopra, and they have three children together.
