Tehran, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced the capture of a sophisticated American underwater drone in the Strait of Hormuz. This incident reportedly occurred during a complex intelligence and military operation in the entrance area of the strategic waterway.
According to a statement released by the IRGC’s official news agency, Sepah News, the unmanned underwater vehicle, identified as “Dive-LD,” is equipped with cutting-edge underwater technology. The IRGC plans to release images of the drone in the coming hours.
In a separate statement, the IRGC also reported that its air defense systems shot down an MQ-9 Reaper drone flying over the Strait of Hormuz on the same day.
In response to these claims, the U.S. military acknowledged that one of its underwater drones experienced technical difficulties while surveying the area a day earlier. However, the U.S. did not confirm whether Iran had indeed seized the drone.
Iranian President Masoud Pajeshkian emphasized the country’s commitment to resisting aggression, stating that Iran would continue to defend itself until aggressors fully regretted their actions. He reiterated Iran’s longstanding opposition to war, advocating for the protection of regional security without escalating conflicts.
The recent tensions follow a series of missile and drone strikes by Iran targeting Israeli and U.S. assets in response to attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities by Israel and the U.S. on February 28. This escalation has intensified Iran’s grip on the Strait of Hormuz.
On June 18, the U.S. and Iran signed a memorandum aimed at ending hostilities in the region, with both nations expected to reach a final agreement through negotiations within 60 days. However, as of the deadline on August 17, the future of these discussions remains uncertain amid rising tensions.
