New Delhi, February 25: Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia has condemned the VIP treatment received by a director of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) as “unacceptable” and a violation of established norms. He stated that such conduct is shocking and has issued a show-cause notice to the official involved.

The controversy arose following revelations about extensive arrangements made for the proposed visit of BSNL Director Vivek Bansal to Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. In response to media inquiries, Scindia emphasized that the incident breaches established rules and traditions.

“Yesterday, the media asked me several questions, and I made it clear that this is inappropriate and a violation of established norms and traditions. This is completely unacceptable to me. It is extremely shocking,” Scindia told reporters.

He added that the director has been issued a show-cause notice and is required to respond within seven days. “We will take appropriate action,” he affirmed.

Scindia stressed that in today’s era, any form of “royal treatment” for officials is unimaginable. He made it clear that those found guilty in this matter will not be spared.

According to an official order issued by the Deputy General Manager, nearly 50 employees were deployed over two days to manage 21 different tasks related to the trip. Reports indicate that the detailed itinerary included activities such as boating, temple visits, bathing at the Triveni Sangam, and even the preparation of bathing kits containing towels, oil, combs, and undergarments.

Tasks assigned to officials included arranging suits, taking photographs, managing transportation, and stocking vehicles with water bottles, chocolates, chips, and other beverages.

The controversy erupted after documents related to this private trip surfaced on social media, leading to widespread criticism. Following the backlash, Bansal’s trip was promptly canceled.

It is noteworthy that the government telecom company BSNL reported a loss of over ₹1,300 crores in the last quarter. However, the company has not issued any statement regarding this incident.
