Earthquake Tremors Felt in Kurung Kumey, Arunachal Pradesh

Mumbai, August 28: Tremors were felt in Kurung Kumey, Arunachal Pradesh, on Friday. The earthquake registered a magnitude of 2.9 on the Richter scale, as reported by the National Center for Seismology on their official social media account.
Earlier, on August 6, another earthquake was recorded in Upper Siang, Arunachal Pradesh, with a magnitude of 3.5. This information was also shared by the National Center for Seismology via their social media channels.
The recent tremors have raised concerns among geologists about the ongoing seismic activity in the region. They are questioning why this area is experiencing frequent earthquakes.
Earthquake activity is considered normal in the Indian subcontinent, as the country is situated on several active fault lines. Northeastern India, including Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Assam, is particularly vulnerable to seismic events due to the tectonic activities of the Indian and Eurasian plates.
It’s noteworthy that the tremors in Kurung Kumey coincided with a recent natural disaster in Nepal, which has claimed many lives and left several individuals missing.
Additionally, on the same day, tremors were also reported in Longchang, a city in China’s southwestern Sichuan province. A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck at 1:13 PM local time, with a depth of approximately 13 kilometers. Currently, there is no information regarding damage or casualties.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC), the earthquake in Longchang occurred at 1:13 PM (Beijing time) on Friday.
