India Offers Support to Venezuela Following Devastating Earthquake

New Delhi, June 25: In response to the severe humanitarian crisis caused by a devastating earthquake in Venezuela, India has pledged its commitment to assist in relief and rescue efforts. Acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, welcomed the condolences and assurances of support expressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She conveyed her gratitude to India for its backing during this challenging time.

In a reply on social media, Rodriguez stated, “We wholeheartedly welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sentiments. He expressed his condolences regarding the destruction caused by the catastrophic earthquake in our country and indicated India’s willingness to help with relief efforts.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi expressed his sorrow over the devastation caused by the earthquake on the social media platform X. He wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the destruction caused by the terrible earthquake in Venezuela. On behalf of the people of India, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Venezuela, especially to those families who have lost their loved ones.”

He further added, “We pray for the swift recovery of the injured and stand with all victims during this difficult time. India is ready to provide every possible assistance.”

Rodriguez has been providing continuous updates regarding the devastation. According to her, the natural disaster has so far claimed the lives of 32 individuals.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has warned that the death toll could rise significantly, potentially reaching between 10,000 and 100,000. Reporters from the Xinhua news agency have estimated severe destruction in Caracas. Images circulating on social media show numerous homes collapsed on the streets of Caracas.

The USGS reported a 7.1 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday evening at 2204 GMT, followed by another tremor of 7.5 magnitude just a minute later. Both quakes struck near the coastal city of Morón, approximately 160 kilometers west of Caracas.

The earthquakes occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, which could amplify their destructive impact. Diosdado Cabello, Venezuela’s Minister of Home Affairs, Justice, and Peace, stated that the strong earthquakes have caused damage across cities nationwide.
