Sanju Samson Reflects on Competition and Team Spirit Ahead of T20 Series Against Afghanistan

New Delhi, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : Indian cricket star Sanju Samson showcased his explosive batting skills during the second T20 match against Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Stadium on September 16, 2026. His impressive half-century played a crucial role in leading the Indian team, further silencing his critics.

After a modest opening performance in the series, where he scored just 10 runs off 8 balls, Samson rebounded with a stellar 57 runs off just 22 balls, hitting four sixes and seven fours in the process.

In the post-match press conference, Samson addressed the rising competition from fellow top-order batsmen Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Suryaanshi. He acknowledged the challenge but emphasized that all players share the same goal: to win for their country. “It’s tough, but we all understand that we are representing the nation, and everyone is performing well,” he stated.

Samson noted the difficulty faced by the entire team management, including the captain, coach, and selectors, as they navigate the performances of such talented players. “Everyone deserves a fair chance to perform at the international level,” he added.

He expressed a desire to maintain a positive relationship with his competitors, viewing them not as adversaries but as teammates united in their mission. “We are playing for our country, and our focus is on winning games,” he remarked.

Regarding Vaibhav Suryaanshi, who has yet to play in the series, Samson acknowledged his impressive track record, having scored 700-800 runs in the IPL. He recognized the need for communication within the team, highlighting discussions with the head coach before the series.

“Leadership requires making tough decisions, and our leadership group is committed to putting the team first,” he said. As the series progresses, it remains to be seen if Suryaanshi will find a place in the playing eleven for the upcoming third match.
