Nitish Reddy Reflects on Confidence Boost After Injury Comeback in T20 Match

New Delhi, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : In New Delhi, Nitish Kumar Reddy marked a triumphant return from injury during the second T20 International against Afghanistan, securing Player of the Match honors with an impressive performance. The young bowler claimed three wickets for just 24 runs, helping India restrict Afghanistan to 159 runs and chase down the target with seven wickets in hand.

After a lackluster showing in the series opener, Reddy expressed that his stellar performance in the second match provided him with the confidence necessary for his comeback. In a video released by the BCCI, he stated, “It feels great. Every player returning from injury needs confidence. Honestly, the first match wasn’t great for me, but I’m very happy with my performance in the second match. Every player needs that confidence, and I hope to maintain it moving forward.”

Reddy’s recent success comes after he dedicated significant effort to regain his fitness at the BCCI Center of Excellence. He also acknowledged the support from the Indian team management, which allowed him to focus on his game without the pressure of securing a spot on the team. “Being part of the Indian team has always been an honor. The management has given me many opportunities and shown great faith in me. That’s what a player truly needs, and I’m grateful for the support,” he remarked.

However, the journey back from injury was not without its mental challenges. Reddy shared that spending extended periods at the Center of Excellence could be mentally exhausting, even with all the necessary facilities and training available. He found solace in conversations with close friends and family, which helped him cope with the fatigue. “I have some really good friends, and I talk to them every day. While it’s great to have training facilities, I also make it a point to visit home for a day or two, which provides some relief. It’s important to take care of your mental health,” he explained.

As an all-rounder, Reddy emphasized the importance of managing his physical well-being amidst the demands of the sport. He acknowledged that accepting injuries can be challenging, but maintaining a positive mindset is crucial for overcoming difficulties. “Injuries are part of the game. Being an all-rounder means I carry a heavier workload. I have to monitor my body and recover properly. While it’s tough when injuries occur, it all depends on your mindset. You need to stay strong and not let negativity take over. Just stay positive mentally and keep working hard; the rewards will come at the right time,” he concluded.
