Lionel Messi Becomes First Player to Score 100 Goals for Inter Miami, Leading Team to Campeones Cup Victory

Miami, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : Lionel Messi achieved a remarkable milestone on September 17, 2026, by scoring his 100th goal for Inter Miami. This significant achievement helped the team secure a 2-0 victory against Liga MX’s Cruz Azul in the Campeones Cup.

Messi found the net in the 24th minute, converting a precise cross from Luis Suárez. The win was solidified in the second half when Casemiro scored with a header, following Messi’s corner kick in the 81st minute. Earlier, Cruz Azul had a chance to score in the sixth minute, but Inter Miami goalkeeper Drake Callender made a fantastic save against José Paradela.

Cruz Azul struggled to generate further scoring opportunities and ultimately faced a 2-0 defeat. This match also marked a successful debut for new head coach Cristian González, who took charge of Inter Miami for the championship match.

Messi’s journey to 100 goals has been historic; he is the first player in the club’s history to reach this milestone. He accomplished this feat in just 115 matches across all competitions over four seasons. In 2023, he scored 11 goals, followed by 23 in 2024, and 43 in 2025. So far in 2026, he has netted 23 goals.

Messi joined Inter Miami in the summer of 2023, ushering in a new era of success for the club. His contributions have been pivotal in winning the 2023 Leagues Cup, the 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield, the 2025 Eastern Conference title, and the 2025 MLS Cup, marking the club’s first four trophies.
