Mumbai, June 30: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam has welcomed the special intensive revision (SIR) process initiated by the Election Commission of India starting today. He stated that the aim is to make voter lists completely pure and transparent. Under this campaign, names of fake, duplicate, and deceased voters will be removed, ensuring that all legitimate Indian citizens retain their voting rights. He also criticized the opposition regarding Uddhav Thackeray’s tour of Maharashtra and Sachin Ahir’s joining of Shiv Sena.
Nirupam mentioned that as of June 30, the SIR process has commenced in several states as per the directives of the Election Commission. This campaign is being implemented across multiple states. Appointed officials will visit households to contact voters and provide them with a form (EF). Voters are expected to fill out and return the form within seven days, after which officials will verify whether the individual is a genuine and valid Indian voter.
He noted that this is the third phase of the voter list purification, which aims to eliminate fake voters, those registered in multiple locations, and deceased individuals from the voter list. Consequently, only valid citizens will remain on the list and will be able to exercise their democratic rights in upcoming elections.
Commenting on Uddhav Thackeray’s tour of Maharashtra, Nirupam stated that Thackeray returned from his state tour with his family. He specifically visited six Lok Sabha constituencies where his MPs have defected to the faction led by Eknath Shinde. Nirupam asserted that this tour had no impact on his party’s leaders and workers. He cited an example where, the day after Thackeray’s visit to Yavatmal, 15 senior officials from UBT left the party to join Shiv Sena, indicating that Thackeray’s appeal had no effect on his party’s organization.
Describing Sachin Ahir’s joining of Shiv Sena as a significant blow to UBT, Nirupam stated that Ahir has filed his nomination for the position of Deputy Chairman in the Legislative Council. Ahir is a prominent leader among workers, and his arrival has weakened a crucial pillar of UBT.
Nirupam claimed that Ahir was initially brought from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to Thackeray’s party to assist Aditya Thackeray in winning the Worli Assembly seat. At that time, he was rewarded with a Legislative Council membership. Now that Ahir has joined Shiv Sena, UBT’s position in Worli will weaken, making it difficult for Aditya Thackeray to win elections from there in the future.
