New Delhi, August 22: BJP leader Tarun Chugh has strongly criticized Congress leaders for referring to the late Sajjan Kumar as a significant loss. He stated that it is unfortunate for Congress to attempt to portray an accused in the Sikh riots as a hero.
Sajjan Kumar, a former Congress MP, was serving a life sentence related to the riots that erupted after the assassination of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards in 1984. He passed away on Thursday at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
During an interview with a news agency, Chugh remarked, “The Congress party still harbors a mindset that shelters and protects murderers. In 1984, those who turned innocent lives into hell—Congress workers and leaders from the Gandhi-Nehru family—identified Sikhs on voter lists, dragged them from their homes, and burned them alive. Sikhs were set ablaze in their courtyards and on the streets in broad daylight. The same mentality persists in the Congress party today. Sajjan Kumar, accused of the 1984 Sikh riots and regarded as one of the biggest villains of this century, is being glorified.”
Chugh added that Prime Minister Modi has opened files and justice is being served, calling Congress’s statements akin to rubbing salt in the wounds of the Sikh community.
Regarding the national anthem controversy, Chugh stated, “You (Congress) wish to insult the national anthem that invokes Mother India. It is unfortunate that the same actions taken by Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah are now being mirrored by the Congress party. If Congress had firmly opposed him at that time, Pakistan would not exist. The only difference is that today, Congress speaks the language of Jinnah and the Muslim League.”
In response to another question, BJP MP Tarun Chugh commented, “Rahul Gandhi is on the brink of mental bankruptcy. I urge his family members to seek help from a good mental health expert. The public has repeatedly given their mandate to the individual they want as Prime Minister and to the organization that has served the nation with dedication and sacrifice for decades.”
