Mumbai, May 24: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam has expressed his support for the Maharashtra government’s strict approach to cattle smuggling. He emphasized the need for severe action against cattle traffickers.
Nirupam welcomed the Chief Minister‘s announcement to take action under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against those involved in cattle smuggling. He stated that if even stricter laws are available, they should be implemented to ensure the protection of cows in the state.
In an interview with a news agency, Nirupam noted that while there are existing laws against cow slaughter in Maharashtra, large-scale beef sales continue to occur. He pointed out that states like Goa and Karnataka, adjacent to Maharashtra, have a higher prevalence of beef consumption, leading to significant inter-state cattle trafficking. According to him, this operates as an organized network, necessitating stringent monitoring at borders and rigorous legal action. He believes that the government’s decision to act under laws like MCOCA sends a strong message to cattle traffickers.
Additionally, Nirupam reacted sharply to allegations made by Harbhajan Singh against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regarding the selling of Rajya Sabha tickets. He stated that Singh has made serious claims that AAP has been offering seats in exchange for money. Nirupam urged Singh to disclose who received how much money and which individuals were sent to the Rajya Sabha.
He criticized AAP and its leader Arvind Kejriwal, suggesting that those who once claimed to be “staunchly honest” are now revealing their true nature. He accused AAP of becoming a party of “staunchly dishonest” individuals.
Nirupam concluded by stating that the ball is now in Harbhajan Singh’s court, and he must clarify to the public which individuals received money from AAP’s leader to be sent to the Rajya Sabha. He insisted that if such serious allegations are made, they should be substantiated with facts and names to bring the truth to light.
