Chandigarh, May 2: Sukhbir Singh Badal, president of the Shiromani Akali Dal, has launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He criticized the recent FIRs filed against Sandeep Pathak in Punjab, claiming that AAP’s approach resembles “selective targeting.” Badal alleged that individuals who remain within the party face no repercussions, while those who leave are suddenly subjected to legal actions.
In a post on his social media account, X, Badal stated, “From hero to zero… Those whose relationships with AAP have soured are being specifically targeted. Sandeep Pathak was once a trusted ally of Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal, and a key figure in the power structure. If he was wrong then, he was merely following the directives of his leaders, Kejriwal and Mann. Why were they not implicated at that time, and why are cases being filed against him now?”
He further remarked, “The filing of FIRs under non-bailable offenses after switching sides indicates a trend of vindictive politics. This shift from influence to investigation raises several serious questions.”
FIRs have been lodged against Sandeep Pathak in two different districts of Punjab, with serious allegations of corruption surfacing. Police sources indicate that the investigation is progressing rapidly, and arrests may occur if necessary. However, the police have not yet released detailed information regarding the case.
Pathak was regarded as one of AAP’s most trusted and strategic leaders. He has been a member of the Rajya Sabha from Punjab since April 2022. His role in strengthening the party’s organization and formulating electoral strategies was considered crucial, especially during the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, where AAP achieved a significant victory.
His recent shift to the BJP is perceived as a major political blow, especially with Punjab’s Assembly elections approaching next year. This development is expected to impact AAP’s strategy and organizational structure significantly.
