Sai Pallavis Journey from Stalker Scare to Stardom

Mumbai, May 8: Sai Pallavi, one of the most beloved actresses in South Indian cinema, is a name that needs no introduction. With her natural acting, exceptional dance skills, and no-makeup look, she has captured the hearts of millions. While each of her film roles is distinct, few know that there was a time when she mistook a renowned film director for a stalker. She believed an unknown person was following her, but that individual ultimately changed her life, propelling her to stardom overnight.

Born on May 9, 1992, in Kotagiri, Tamil Nadu, her full name is Sai Pallavi Senthamarai Kannan. Her father, Senthamarai Kannan, worked in a government job, while her mother, Radha Kannan, had a passion for dance. From a young age, Sai excelled academically and aspired to become a doctor, leading her to pursue medical studies at a university in Georgia.

Despite her academic focus, Sai Pallavi had a deep passion for dance. She never received formal training but learned by watching dance performances by Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai on television. Before entering films, she appeared in minor roles and worked as a junior artist, but she did not gain significant recognition at that time.

The turning point in Sai Pallavi’s life came when the famous director Alphonse Puthren discovered her through a dance clip on Facebook. He wanted her for his film “Premam.” Initially, Sai declined the offer as her focus was on her medical studies. However, after a few years, the director reached out to her again.

Receiving repeated calls made Sai Pallavi feel as though an unknown man was stalking her. She even considered filing a complaint with the police. Once she learned that the caller was not a stalker but a filmmaker, she breathed a sigh of relief and apologized to him.

Following this, she portrayed the character Malhar in “Premam.” The film became an instant hit, and Sai Pallavi became a star overnight. Her simplicity and natural acting won the audience’s hearts, earning her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

She has since starred in several successful films, including “Fida,” “Maari 2,” “Love Story,” “Shyam Singha Roy,” and “Gargi.”

Sai Pallavi is not only known for her films but also for her principles. She turned down a lucrative fairness cream advertisement because she did not want to send the wrong message about skin color.

Today, Sai Pallavi is regarded as one of the most respected actresses in South Indian cinema. She has received numerous Filmfare Awards and South Indian International Movie Awards. Soon, she will be seen playing the role of Sita in “Ramayana: Part 1.”
