Sabalenka Advances to US Open Semifinals, Eyes Third Consecutive Title

New York, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : Aryna Sabalenka, the world’s top-ranked player, has advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 US Open after a gripping match against Linda Noskova, winning 7-6(1), 3-6, 7-6(7). With this victory, she remains on track to capture her third consecutive US Open title.

Sabalenka started strong, breaking Noskova and taking a 5-2 lead. However, the Czech player made a remarkable comeback, winning three consecutive games. The first set went to a tiebreak, where Sabalenka showcased her skills, leading 6-0 before clinching the set 7-1.

The second set saw Noskova take control. After a double fault from Sabalenka, she surged ahead 4-2. Noskova maintained her lead, ultimately winning the set 6-3, marking the first set lost by Sabalenka in the tournament.

The third set was a nail-biter. Noskova led 4-2 and had three break points at 40-0, putting Sabalenka in a tough position. After a moment of frustration, where she dropped her racket, Sabalenka rallied back, creating three break points of her own to level the score at 4-4, capitalizing on a crucial error from Noskova.

Neither player could secure another break, leading to a decisive tiebreak. Sabalenka initially led 2-0 and then 6-3, but Noskova fought back to narrow the gap to 5-6. In a final push, Sabalenka delivered an ace to seal the match.

This marks Sabalenka’s sixth consecutive semifinal appearance at the US Open and her 15th semifinal in any Grand Slam event, making her only the second woman after Serena Williams to reach six straight US Open semifinals, a feat Williams achieved from 2011 to 2016.

Having won the US Open in 2024 and 2025, Sabalenka is now just two victories away from adding a third title to her name.
