Tilak Verma Falls Short of Century as South Zone Trails East Zone by 372 Runs in Duleep Trophy Final

Chennai, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : The Duleep Trophy final at MA Chidambaram Stadium has reached a critical juncture as South Zone concluded their first innings at 336 runs, trailing East Zone by 372 runs.

On the fourth day of play, South Zone began with a score of 242 for the loss of six wickets. Captain Tilak Verma was a key player, starting the day unbeaten on 56 runs alongside Chama Milind, who had 2 runs. The pair put together a 78-run partnership for the seventh wicket, pushing the team’s total to 318. Unfortunately, Milind fell for 43 runs, and the innings quickly came to an end. Verma narrowly missed his century, getting out for 99 runs off 211 balls.

East Zone’s bowlers performed well, with Mukesh Kumar taking three wickets. Mohammad Shami, Kunain Qureshi, and Shikhar Mohan each claimed two wickets. Earlier, East Zone had posted an impressive 708 runs in their first innings, led by wicketkeeper-batsman and captain Ishan Kishan, who scored a remarkable 270 runs. Kumar Kushagra contributed 101 runs, while Shikhar Mohan and Abhimanyu Easwaran added 85 and 72 runs, respectively.

For South Zone, Tripurana Vijay took four wickets, while Chima Milind and Shreyas Gopal each took two, and Sheikh Rasheed claimed one. East Zone had the option to enforce a follow-on but opted to bat again. As of the latest update, East Zone has lost two wickets for 13 runs in their second innings, with Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Abhimanyu Easwaran among those dismissed. East Zone currently holds a significant lead of 385 runs.
