New Zealand and Bangladesh Women’s Teams Set for Warm-Up Matches Ahead of Australia Series

Sydney, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : New Zealand and Bangladesh’s women’s cricket teams are gearing up for warm-up matches in Sydney as they prepare for their respective white-ball series against Australia in October. Cricket Australia has confirmed the schedules for both visiting teams.

The New Zealand women’s team will face the Governor-General’s XI on October 15 at North Sydney Oval. This match takes place just three days before their T20 series against Australia begins at the same venue.

This encounter is particularly significant for New Zealand, as they embark on a new chapter following the retirements of key players Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates, and Lea Tahuhu. Amelia Kerr will lead the team as they transition into this new phase.

The lineup for the Governor-General’s XI will be announced closer to the match date, expected to feature a mix of emerging and experienced Australian players.

Shawn Fliegler, Cricket Australia’s Head of Performance and National Selector, emphasized the honor of being chosen for the Governor-General’s XI. “This match presents a great opportunity for players to practice ahead of the T20 series. We are excited to select a team that reflects the quality and significance of this match,” he stated.

The match will coincide with the T20 Spring Challenge, which includes all eight Women’s Big Bash League clubs, ensuring a substantial pool of contracted domestic players will be in Sydney.

Governor-General Sam Mostyn will lead the XI for the third consecutive summer. Following tradition, a member of the Australian Defence Force will also be included in the team.

Lieutenant Meera Hyderabad, a wicketkeeper-batter and artillery officer with the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery, has already been confirmed for the match.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh team will have their chance to prepare for a three-match ODI series against Australia. They are set to play against Queensland XI on October 6 at North Sydney.

The Bangladesh women’s team will participate in three T20 matches on October 9, 11, and 14, while New Zealand will compete in their T20 matches against Australia on October 18, 20, and 22.
