New Delhi, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : Pakistan’s cricket team has faced challenges in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026, and now one of its key players, Gul Firoza, has come under scrutiny. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a 10% fine on her match fee due to a breach of discipline during a match against Hong Kong in Dubai. Additionally, Firoza received a demerit point added to her record.
The incident occurred during the fifth over of Pakistan’s innings. Firoza attempted to sweep a delivery from left-arm wrist spinner Kerry Chan but appeared to miss, resulting in the ball striking her pads in front of the stumps. The on-field umpire ruled her out. With no DRS available in the tournament, Firoza was forced to leave the field. As she walked back to the pavilion, she expressed her disagreement with the umpire’s decision, which led to the ICC’s disciplinary action.
According to the ICC, Firoza indicated with her bat that she believed the ball had touched the edge, which constituted a violation of Article 2.8 of the ICC’s Code of Conduct for Players. This marked her second infraction within a 24-month period, resulting in a total of two demerit points against her name.
Firoza is now the second Pakistani player to be found guilty of breaching the code during the Asia Cup. Earlier, team captain Fatima Sana was also fined 10% of her match fee after a similar incident during a match against India, where she received a demerit point for her behavior after dismissing Shafali Verma.
Despite their struggles, Pakistan managed to secure a spot in the semi-finals alongside India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, following a 72-run victory over Hong Kong. Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in the semi-finals, while India will take on Bangladesh.
