S. Jaishankar Engages Global Leaders in Cyprus Amidst Ukraine War Discussions

Nicosia, May 28: Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held bilateral talks with several global leaders during the informal meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Cyprus. The discussions focused on strengthening mutual cooperation across various sectors and addressing the emerging situation in West Asia.

Jaishankar met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, where they discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation.

Following their meeting, Kuleba took to social media platform ‘X’ to express, “I had a meaningful meeting with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in Cyprus. We discussed the Russia-Ukraine war and the situation on the battlefield, particularly regarding Ukraine’s growing initiatives.”

He added, “Our message is clear. We want to end this war and seek lasting and comprehensive peace. We also talked about the need to strengthen peace efforts and global cooperation. As Europe takes on more responsibility, we welcome India’s strong voice and contribution. We discussed further strengthening Ukraine-India relations and agreed to continue regular dialogue on mutual interests.”

Jaishankar also met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, where they exchanged views on the changing dynamics in West Asia.

On social media, he wrote, “I had a productive meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. I appreciate his insights and understanding of the evolving situation in West Asia/Middle East.”

Additionally, Jaishankar engaged in discussions with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, focusing on India-EU cooperation and the geopolitical landscape of West Asia.

The Indian External Affairs Minister arrived in Cyprus on Wednesday to participate in this informal meeting, invited by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos.
