Kolkata, July 24: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has taken a firm stance against corruption, declaring on the social media platform ‘X’ that no level of corruption or extortion will be tolerated within the administration.
He emphasized that under the government’s ‘Zero Tolerance Policy,’ strict actions are being taken against corrupt officials, aiming to create a completely corruption-free administrative system.
In his post, CM Adhikari highlighted a case involving illegal extortion against a truck driver. He recounted an incident where Deepak Singh, the owner of a freight truck, and driver Shiva Yadav were returning to the garage after servicing. At the Rampur checkpoint in the West Bardhaman district, officials wrongfully stopped the truck and pressured the driver to pay a bribe. When he refused, the truck was seized, and a demand of ₹22,000 was made, purportedly for a tax that the state government had already abolished.
Following this complaint, the Chief Minister stated that the transport department acted swiftly, suspending motor vehicle inspectors Nazimul Haque and Anupam Banerjee under Rule 7(1)(A) of the West Bengal Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1971.
The entire matter has been handed over to the Anti-Corruption Bureau for a criminal investigation and necessary legal action. Officials have also been instructed to release any vehicles that were wrongfully detained and to take strict measures against those involved in illegal extortion or harassment of transporters.
CM Adhikari warned that this serves as a clear message to all administrative officials: any officer found involved in corruption, harassment, or illegal extortion will not be spared. The most stringent departmental and legal actions will be pursued against them. The goal is to ensure that the administration remains completely transparent, fair, and free from corruption.
