New Delhi, May 31: Right-handed opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has been included in the India A team for the ODI tri-series starting on June 9 in Sri Lanka. He replaces the injured Ryan Parag, who is sidelined due to a hamstring injury.
In a statement released by the BCCI on Sunday, it was announced, “The men’s selection committee has included Ruturaj Gaikwad in the India A team for the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka. He has taken the place of vice-captain Ryan Parag, who is out of the series due to a hamstring injury. Ryan’s rehabilitation will be managed by the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE).”
Parag was appointed as the vice-captain for the India A team in this tri-series. The Rajasthan Royals captain suffered the hamstring injury during IPL 2026, which prevented him from participating in matches against the Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans.
His injury was evident in the last few matches he played for RR. The team was eliminated from the tournament after losing to GT by seven wickets in Qualifier 2 on Friday in New Chandigarh. Following the end of RR’s IPL campaign, Parag will undergo rehabilitation at the CoE in Bengaluru. Earlier this year, he had also stayed at the CoE to recover from a shoulder injury.
Gaikwad, who captained the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2026, had a disappointing season with both bat and captaincy. He scored a total of 337 runs at an average of 28.08 and a strike rate of 123.44 over 14 matches. Gaikwad has previously played in the ODI format for the senior Indian team. In the India A team, he will join Tilak Varma and Anshul Kamboj as the third player who has debuted for the Indian team.
The tri-series will also feature Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A teams alongside India A.
The India A team for the tri-series includes: Tilak Varma (captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad (vice-captain), Priyansh Arya, Vaibhav Suryaanshi, Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Suryaansh Shedge, Prabhsimran Singh (wicketkeeper), Kumar Kushagra (wicketkeeper), Vipraj Nigam, Yash Thakur, Yudhveer Singh, Anshul Kamboj, Arshad Khan, and Anukul Roy.
