Ontario, July 30: The fifth-seeded Indian men’s team has secured a spot in the semifinals of the Squash Junior Team Championship for the second consecutive time. They triumphed over the third-seeded England in a hard-fought match, winning 2-1.
In contrast, the Indian women’s team faced a setback in the quarterfinals, losing to the United States with a score of 1-2. The Indian men’s team will now face the United States in the semifinals, as the U.S. advanced by defeating the eighth-seeded Japan. Last season, the Indian men’s team also reached the semifinals.
The Indian men’s team started strong in the quarterfinals. Aryaveer Diwan secured the first point for India by defeating Ronny Hickling with scores of 11-9, 12-10, and 11-5. However, Yusha Nafees faced a thrilling defeat against Ismail Khalil, losing 11-7, 8-11, 11-4, 13-11, and 11-7. Gurveer Singh then clinched the victory for India by defeating George Griffiths in straight games, with scores of 11-3, 11-8, and 11-6, securing a place in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, the French men’s team has made history by reaching the semifinals of the World Squash Junior Team Championship for the first time in 26 years. They defeated the sixth-seeded Malaysia 2-0, marking their first appearance in the final four since 2000.
In the women’s quarterfinals, the United States showcased an impressive performance against India. The match began strongly for India, with reigning World Junior Champion Anahat Singh defeating Diya Yadav in straight games, 11-7, 11-5, and 11-4. However, the Indian team could not maintain this lead.
Charlotte Sage equalized the score by defeating Rudra Singh 11-6, 11-4, and 11-8. In the decisive match, Lily Borel overcame Anika Dubey with scores of 13-11, 11-8, and 11-6, securing a semifinal spot for the United States. They will now face the defending champions, Egypt, who advanced by defeating Australia 3-0.
