Indian Hockey Team Changes Jersey Color to Saffron Amid Political Debate

New Delhi, July 30: Hockey India has officially changed the color of the Indian hockey team‘s jersey from blue to saffron. This decision has sparked a political debate, with supporters welcoming the change while opponents claim it was made under government pressure.

Dilip Tirkey, the president of Hockey India, stated that the new jersey color was altered purely for technical reasons and not due to any political influence.

Indian hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh emphasized that the decision was based on technical factors. “This isn’t the first time we’ve changed our jersey color. Previously, we had a yellow jersey in 2013-14, followed by light blue and then dark blue. This time, we opted for saffron due to some technical reasons. When you’re on the field, the pitch is blue, and wearing all blue can create some difficulties. We’ve won medals while wearing blue, and we are happy with the new jersey color,” he said.

BJP MP Janardan Singh Sigriwal commented, “One shouldn’t blame the government for everything. Hockey has its own federation. Changing the jersey shouldn’t cause any issues. This is a small-minded concern. The jersey has changed before without any objections. We should focus on how many medals our players are winning. PM Modi and the sports ministry deserve praise for boosting the morale of our athletes, who are currently winning numerous medals on the global stage.”

Chandrashekhar Azad, leader of the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshiram), remarked on the jersey’s saffron color, saying, “If the government made this decision, it might be trying to align with majority sentiments. Saffron has historical significance dating back to the time of Lord Buddha. Politics should not be played with colors, as it can be dangerous.”
