RJD Restructures After Loss in Bankipur By-Election, Tejashwi Yadav to Lead New Team

Patna, August 10: Following a significant defeat in the Bankipur Assembly by-election, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is accelerating efforts to reorganize its structure. The party has dissolved all committees from the state level down to the panchayat level in Bihar. All eyes are now on Executive President Tejashwi Yadav as he prepares to unveil a new team and redefine the party’s leadership.

According to party sources, Yadav aims to strike a balance between experience and youthful energy in the formation of the new team. There is a possibility that long-time allies of Lalu Prasad Yadav will be given key responsibilities within the organization. The experience of senior leaders who stood by the party during challenging times is expected to be leveraged to strengthen the organization.

For leaders without effective alternatives, a strategy may be adopted to assign responsibilities that respect their age and roles, thereby maintaining their dignity. Additionally, Yadav is considering giving significant positions to his trusted and close associates. Alongside promoting younger faces, there is also hope that dedicated activists with a strong grasp of grassroots politics will be entrusted with responsibilities.

This restructuring is crucial for the RJD, especially after the party managed to win only 25 seats in the 2025 Assembly elections. The departure of several prominent leaders to other parties post-election has raised questions about the organization. The new team aims to address these challenges head-on. Moreover, the results of the Bankipur by-election have surfaced internal disagreements within the party.

The verbal spat between RJD MLA Bhai Virendra and party spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav has intensified discussions about the organizational situation. Thus, the formation of new committees is seen not just as a structural change but also as a significant move in terms of power dynamics within the party.

Meanwhile, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter, Rohini Acharya, has expressed her expectations regarding the new team formation. On the social media platform X, she stated that the decision to dissolve party units and cells should have been made much earlier. She hopes that the reorganization will prioritize committed Lalu loyalists, long-serving workers dedicated to the party, those with organizational insight, and grassroots leaders.

Rohini emphasized that uplifting marginalized social, economic, and political groups and providing appropriate opportunities and positions to activists have always been Lalu Prasad’s priorities. According to her, strengthening the RJD can only be achieved by adhering to Lalu Prasad’s principles and the path he has laid out.
