Patna, August 13 (Kiran News) – The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Bihar’s main opposition party, may boycott the upcoming Assembly elections. The decision will be taken after further consultation with the people of Bihar, RJD leader and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, said on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media at his Polo Road residence in Patna, Tejashwi Yadav said that his party could stay away from the Assembly elections. From August 17, he will join Rahul Gandhi’s Vot Adhikar Yatra, during which discussions will be held with the public on this issue. After the yatra, party leaders will seriously consider whether or not to contest the elections.
“When the Election Commission has already decided everything, we can also consider not participating in the elections,” Yadav said, accusing the BJP of manipulating the voter list on a large scale through the Election Commission.
He claimed that Muzaffarpur Mayor and senior BJP leader Nirmala Devi’s name appears in two different voter lists, with two separate EPIC cards and different ages recorded. He further alleged that Devi’s two brothers-in-law also have their names registered in two different places, each with separate EPIC IDs.
Yadav also alleged that BJP’s organisational secretary, Bhikhubhai Dalsania, is listed in Bihar’s voter list despite being originally from Gujarat, where he last cast his vote. He claimed Dalsania removed his name from Gujarat to vote in Bihar, and may later switch back after the elections.
Deputy CM Vijay Sinha Hits Back
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha dismissed Yadav’s claims, saying that if he truly believed in democracy, he would not talk about boycotting elections. Sinha alleged that the opposition was attempting to back out of the electoral contest due to fear of defeat.
He said that those who do not trust the Constitution should face action. Responding to the issue of Bhikhubhai Dalsania’s name in Bihar’s voter list, Sinha said that with discussions on “One Nation, One Election” underway, a person residing in a particular place for years has the right to vote there under the law.
On the age-related allegations, Sinha stated, “I will send him a notice. Let him show his degree and tell us what age is recorded there.”
