Reverence at Rudranath: CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Highlights the Temples Significance

Dehradun, May 18: In the sacred land of Uttarakhand, nestled among towering Himalayan peaks, the chants of “Om Namah Shivaya” resonate at Rudranath Temple. On Monday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami shared insights about the temple’s grandeur.

He posted a video of the temple on the social media platform X, stating, “The holy Rudranath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located amidst the enchanting valleys of Chamoli district. It is known as the fourth of the ‘Panch Kedar’ temples and serves as a significant center of faith and devotion.”

CM Dhami praised the temple, saying, “Here, the divine ‘Mukha’ form of Mahadev is worshipped, which gives this sacred site unique religious and spiritual importance. Be sure to visit this holy temple during your journey to Chamoli district.”

This temple remains a stronghold of eternal faith in Sanatan culture, far removed from the world’s distractions. People travel from afar to witness its magnificence. Located at an altitude of approximately 2,290 meters above sea level in Chamoli district, the Rudranath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, where the worship of his facial form (Ekasana) takes place.

The sanctum sanctorum of the temple is a natural cave. Here, only the face of Lord Shiva, also known as ‘Neelkanth Mahadev,’ is worshipped. Legend has it that the Shivling here was established by the Pandavas themselves. The snow-capped peaks of Nanda Devi, Nanda Ghunti, and Trishul are visible directly in front of the temple.

During the winter months, when the temple doors are closed, the festive palanquin of Rudranath is moved to the secret temple in Gopeshwar for winter worship. Typically, devotees begin their trek from ‘Sagar Village,’ located near Gopeshwar. The distance from Sagar Village to the temple is about 20 kilometers, which can be covered in 2-3 days through dense forests and meadows.
