New Delhi, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian government has announced a marked improvement in coal supply to the electricity sector. Over the past four days, coal loading has seen a substantial increase, reflecting ongoing efforts to meet the nation’s electricity production needs.
According to the Ministry of Coal, on September 3, the coal supply for the power sector was at 370 rakes per day. This figure surged to 444 rakes per day by September 6, indicating a net increase of 74 rakes daily within just four days. Notably, on September 6 alone, there was an increase of 31 rakes compared to the previous day.
The Ministry attributed this uptick in coal loading to the coordinated efforts of Coal India Limited (CIL), its subsidiaries, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), and captive coal mine operators. These entities have been working together to ensure a steady supply of coal to the power sector.
On September 6, nearly all major coal-producing companies reported improvements in their loading capacities. Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) achieved the highest progress, increasing its loading by 12 rakes in a single day, bringing its total to 111 rakes per day.
Similarly, loading from captive coal blocks rose by 6 rakes to reach 72 rakes per day. Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) also saw an increase of 8 rakes, raising its loading to 25 rakes per day.
Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) increased its loading by 3 rakes to 35 rakes per day, while private washing and goods sheds also experienced a 3 rake increase, reaching 42 rakes per day. Additionally, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) and Southeastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) recorded increases of 2 and 1 rake, respectively, resulting in their loadings rising to 36 and 46 rakes per day.
In contrast, Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) and Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) maintained their previous loading levels at 23 and 29 rakes per day.
As a result of these improvements, total coal loading from CIL siding reached 305 rakes per day, which is an increase of 26 rakes compared to the previous day.
The Ministry of Coal also noted that special attention is being given to thermal power plants where coal stock levels fall below 25 percent of the required amount, categorizing them as “critical.” Various corrective measures, including additional coal supply, have already been implemented to improve their status.
The statement concluded that the Ministry of Coal and Coal India Limited are committed to maintaining coal supply in line with the electricity sector’s demand and continuing the upward trend in rake loading. The government’s goal is to ensure that coal availability does not negatively impact electricity production across the country.
