South Delhi, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is actively engaged in search and rescue operations in South Delhi‘s Satya Niketan area following a building collapse. Four teams are working in shifts to locate and rescue individuals trapped under the rubble.
The NDRF was deployed immediately after the district administration requested assistance on Sunday, when the incident was reported. The teams are equipped with tools for “Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue,” as well as medical first responder equipment and a dog squad.
Rescue operations commenced swiftly at the site, under the supervision of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). They are collaborating with the Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service (DFS), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Civil Defense, the Health Department, paramedics, and other relevant agencies.
Inspector General Narendra Singh Bundela addressed the media, stating that the government machinery acted promptly following the collapse. Officials from the District Disaster Management Authority, including the District Magistrate and Sub-Divisional Magistrate, arrived at the scene quickly. Local residents and volunteers also joined the rescue efforts.
Bundela noted that it is challenging to provide a specific timeline for the completion of the rescue operation, but teams are expected to continue their work throughout Monday. He mentioned that a significant amount of debris remains on the ground floor, which agencies are working to clear rapidly.
He emphasized that stabilizing the remaining structure is crucial in situations like this, as instability poses a risk of further collapses. Any movement within an unstable structure could lead to additional portions falling or debris shifting, potentially causing serious or fatal injuries to those trapped inside.
