Rampur, May 30: Senior leader of the Samajwadi Party, Abdullah Azam Khan, received significant relief from the MP-MLA Special Session Court in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. The court acquitted him in a case involving two passports, marking a major victory for him and his family. SP spokesperson Fakhrul Hasan Chand expressed joy over the court’s ruling.
Fakhrul Hasan Chand stated, “The Samajwadi Party welcomes this decision. We believe that several cases, including those related to passports and PAN cards, were filed repeatedly on the same issue. This is why the court has acquitted Abdullah Azam in the passport case, which is a significant relief. Various allegations have been made against Azam Khan, Abdullah Azam, and their family. Such cases will not hold up in court. Whenever these matters reach the judiciary, justice will prevail, as our judicial system is robust.”
Advocate Nasir Sultan noted that the case began in 2019 when the then and current MLA, Akash Saxena, filed a complaint at the Civil Lines police station. The allegation was that Abdullah Azam Khan had obtained two passports at different times, using different birth dates. It was claimed that these documents were used for identification in various instances. Following these allegations, the matter reached the courts, and hearings commenced.
The trial took place in the MP-MLA Special Magistrate Court in Rampur. After a lengthy hearing, on March 5, 2025, the trial court found Abdullah Azam Khan guilty and sentenced him to seven years in prison. However, an appeal was filed, and the case was taken to the Special Judge MP-MLA Court. After a thorough hearing, the appellate court overturned the lower court’s decision, acquitting Abdullah Azam Khan in the passport case.
Advocate Nasir Sultan emphasized that the case was misrepresented from the beginning. He claimed that there were not two passports but rather a correction made to the birth date on a single passport. He also asserted that the documents submitted in 2018 were thoroughly examined by the passport office, which issued the passport only after a complete investigation. According to him, the passport officer testified in court that the process was conducted according to regulations.
However, another case related to a PAN card remains pending. This appeal has already been dismissed, and the lawyer has indicated that a criminal revision will be filed in the High Court against this decision. Until a final resolution is reached in this matter, Abdullah Azam Khan’s path to release will not be clear.
