Political Tensions Rise in Dhanbad as Congress Protest Escalates

Dhanbad, August 31: Political tensions have surged in Dhanbad following a protest related to a purification program held after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s rally in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. On Monday, Congress members attempted to burn an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi outside the local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) district office, leading to a heated confrontation with BJP workers.

To manage the escalating situation, police swiftly intervened, detaining several Congress leaders, including state youth president Kumar Gaurav and district president Aditya.

The protest was organized by the Youth Congress in response to the purification program. Hundreds of Congress workers marched towards the BJP office in the Kolakusma area of the Saraiyadhala police station, chanting slogans. They attempted to breach barricades to enter the office premises.

BJP workers also gathered outside the office, resulting in a face-off between the two groups. Tensions escalated when BJP members seized the effigy from the protesters. In response, police forces intervened, separating the two sides to restore order.

Following the incident, police took Kumar Gaurav, Aditya, and several other leaders into custody and cleared the remaining protesters from the area. To maintain law and order, a significant police presence has been deployed around the BJP district office and nearby areas. Senior police officials are closely monitoring the situation.
