US-Iran Talks Progressing Well in Doha, Says Vice President Vance

Washington, July 2: US Vice President J.D. Vance announced that negotiations with Iran in Doha are progressing positively. He cautioned, however, that if Tehran resumes its nuclear program or attacks commercial shipping, President Donald Trump will not hesitate to use military force again.

After visiting the Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia, Vance spoke to the media before departing on Air Force Two. He mentioned that following recent US military actions against Iranian targets, negotiators from the US, Iran, Qatar, and other nations are discussing the next steps.

Vance stated, “The Iranians, Qataris, and others in Doha are currently engaged in talks. It is still early, but the discussions are going well.” He emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of commercial shipping in the region.

He added, “Commercial traffic is indeed moving in a positive direction. Oil prices are at $68, and gas prices are starting to decline. We are concerned about the nuclear issue and are preparing to begin discussions on it.”

Vance assured that the Trump administration will continue negotiations, but military options remain on the table if Iran changes its course. “I can say that the President will not send our military back unless it is absolutely necessary and there is a clear purpose. If they attempt to restart their nuclear program or resume attacks on commercial vessels, our calculations will change,” he warned.

When asked about divisions within Iranian leadership, Vance noted a growing support in Tehran for improving relations with the West and neighboring Gulf countries. “Within Iran’s system, like many other countries, there are individuals who believe that the government’s policies over the past 47 years have been a mistake. They see the need to improve relations with the US, Europe, and Gulf Arab nations. However, some still cling to old ideologies and methods,” he explained.

He expressed Washington’s belief that there is significant momentum among those seeking a fresh start, and thus, diplomacy will be given every chance to succeed. Nevertheless, he reiterated that any attempt by Iran to resume sensitive nuclear activities or halt international oversight would trigger a strong response from the US. He affirmed that President Trump still has many options available.

When asked about comments from Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez regarding the 2028 presidential election, Vance declined to speculate, stating, “I don’t think much about 2028. My focus is on doing good work now. Let’s ensure some victories for the American people. We can worry about the future when it arrives.”

Regarding the Supreme Court, Vance expressed his belief that Justice Amy Coney Barrett made an error in a recent birthright citizenship ruling. He acknowledged that mistakes can occur in the Supreme Court and that the government will work to rectify them.

He also dismissed speculation about Justice Samuel Alito’s potential retirement, stating that any decision would depend entirely on the justice himself.
