Ramdas Athawale Calls for the Overthrow of DMK Government in Tamil Nadu

New Delhi, March 31: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) has expressed its support for the DMK and Congress in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Central Minister Ramdas Athawale shared his thoughts on this development.

Athawale stated, “Every party has the right to form alliances. However, we believe that a government formed by the AIADMK and BJP is on the horizon. We do not receive a significant number of Muslim votes. If the DMK-Congress is supported by AIMIM, it will benefit us. We do not see any harm in this.” He emphasized the need to overthrow the DMK government in Tamil Nadu and establish an NDA government instead.

He mentioned that AIMIM will contest in 25 to 30 seats, while continuing to support NDA candidates in other constituencies.

Regarding the West Bengal elections, Athawale noted that his party is not contesting any seats there and is supporting the BJP. In Assam, they are contesting four seats, and in Kerala, they are running for just one seat. He plans to campaign for the NDA across all five states, expressing confidence in the NDA’s potential to form governments.

On the demands from AIMIM to the DMK-Congress alliance, Athawale remarked, “I do not know what decision Stalin’s government will make regarding AIMIM’s demands. However, Muslims have historically received OBC reservations. The remaining Muslims benefit from the 10% EWS reservation. Legally, reservations cannot be granted on the basis of religion.”

As the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approach, Chennai has emerged as a critical political battleground. A fierce contest is anticipated between the ruling DMK and the opposition AIADMK, with both parties vying for 12 out of the 16 assembly seats in the capital.
