
New Delhi, April 1: On Wednesday, a bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha to grant legal status to Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh. Congress MP Mallu Ravi confirmed that the bill was presented in Parliament, aimed at establishing Amaravati as the permanent capital of the state.
He stated that all MPs from Telangana supported the bill to designate Amaravati as the capital. Ravi also expressed his support for the bill and urged Prime Minister Modi to fulfill the promises made to Telangana.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju spoke to reporters about the bill, emphasizing that it was brought forward to formalize Amaravati’s status as the capital.
Regarding the FCRA bill, Rijiju advised not to be misled by the opposition’s claims and to focus on the facts. He assured that the government adheres to regulations and introduces bills as necessary, without breaking any rules. He criticized those who act against the system, referring to Congress and others, and reiterated that they never overlook the established order. The bill was distributed yesterday, presented today, and all parties were notified, including some representatives from Kerala, about prioritizing the Andhra bill.
Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav commented that there was supposed to be a discussion on the bill today, but it has been postponed. She expressed uncertainty about the government’s stance on this matter.
Notably, in the Lok Sabha, Pemmassani Chandrashekar remarked that speaking in the House as a ‘son of Amaravati’ during such a historic moment was both an honor and a source of pride for him. He described the move to grant legal recognition to Amaravati as a significant milestone in the history of the Telugu people and the state.
