Rajkot, February 23: A campaign to remove illegal encroachments began in the Jangleshwar area on Monday. The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) is targeting 1,489 illegal structures with bulldozers.

The municipal corporation is clearing encroachments along TP Road and the riverbank. A heavy police presence has been deployed during the operation. The demolition is taking place under strict police supervision, aiming to clear approximately 87,000 square meters of land.

Prior notices had already been issued to vacate the land. The large-scale demolition operation is now underway to remove these illegal encroachments. Municipal Commissioner Tushar Sumera stated that the constructions along the riverbank in the Jangleshwar area are illegal, and the process to clear these encroachments has commenced. He mentioned that over 700 personnel, including senior officials, are present at the site. Efforts are being made to persuade residents to vacate the area voluntarily.

Sumera emphasized that 100% action will be taken against illegal constructions along the riverbank. Encroachments on the roads will also be addressed. The municipal team has been conducting a door-to-door campaign for the past five days, explaining the situation to each household. They are even providing tractor services for those willing to clear their land.

Rajkot’s DCP Crime, Jagdish Bagrawa, reported that the demolition of all illegal structures in Jangleshwar and surrounding areas began this morning. He noted that the demolition process has been peaceful since the morning.

Many residents have voluntarily demolished their structures after being informed. The remaining areas are now undergoing a peaceful removal process.
