Gujarat to Host International Yoga Day with Over 12.5 Million Participants

Gandhinagar, June 18: Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi announced on Thursday that over 12.5 million people will participate in yoga protocol training for this year’s International Yoga Day. The main state-level event will take place in Mansa, Gandhinagar district.

Sanghvi provided details about the preparations for the 12th International Yoga Day, stating that the event will be chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, with more than 4,000 attendees expected at the main venue.

He mentioned, “The entire nation is celebrating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 12 years of governance through various service-oriented initiatives, and the International Yoga Day program in Gujarat is a part of this larger celebration.”

This year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Aging,” will be promoted through various programs across the state.

Sanghvi noted that over ten major events have already been conducted, with plans for approximately 24,000 programs in schools, colleges, corporate offices, industries, parks, and public spaces.

From June 14 to 20, a ‘Yoga Week’ is being observed throughout the state, featuring twelve special programs for different community groups, including sanitation workers, women, the elderly, and farmers. Ten of these programs have already taken place, with two more scheduled in the coming days.

He stated that on International Yoga Day, large-scale yoga sessions will be organized simultaneously across all 17 municipal corporations, 33 districts, and in both urban and rural areas, allowing people to participate at the same time throughout the state.

To ensure smooth execution at all levels, coordination is being established among district collectors, municipal commissioners, and social organizations.

In a related event, over 5,000 people participated in a large yoga session held today in Gandhinagar’s Gift City. Highlighting India’s global cultural reach, Sanghvi remarked, “During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign visits, yoga demonstrations have welcomed foreign nationals, showcasing the global spread of India’s cultural traditions.”

He added that there is a growing demand for Indian yoga instructors worldwide, who are receiving competitive salaries. The Gujarat Yoga Board is providing training and facilities to help citizens practice yoga daily.

Sanghvi praised the efforts of the Yoga Board’s chairman and his team to increase public participation in yoga across the state.
