China Clarifies Its Stance at the UN Human Rights Council

Beijing, June 18: The 62nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council is currently taking place in Geneva, Switzerland. On June 16, Li Xiaomei, the deputy head of the Chinese delegation, articulated China’s position during the meeting.

Li emphasized that global human rights governance is facing significant challenges. On the 20th anniversary of the council’s establishment, it is essential to advocate for respect for the human rights development paths chosen independently by each country. She stated that the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights should play a constructive role in this regard. Recently, China released its fifth national human rights action plan, which aims to bring stability and certainty to the development of human rights worldwide through its progress in this field. Currently, Xinjiang and Tibet are prosperous and stable, and the legitimate rights of Hong Kong residents are guaranteed. The “Law of the People’s Republic of China on Promoting National Unity and Progress” aims to ensure equal rights for all ethnic groups and foster common development and prosperity.

Li Xiaomei refuted false statements made by countries such as the UK, Australia, and the Czech Republic, pointing out their own human rights violations and their refusal to reconsider their actions. China urged these nations to cease the politicization and misuse of human rights and to take action to maintain the credibility of multilateral human rights mechanisms.
