Hyderabad, June 18: The Telangana government has reached out to the Indian embassy in Turkey for assistance in locating a woman from Telangana who went missing during a transit at Istanbul Airport. The woman, Bokka Rajshree, was traveling from Houston, USA, to Hyderabad.
Rajshree, a resident of the Medchal-Malkajgiri district, was scheduled to take a Turkish Airlines flight TK-34, which landed in Istanbul on June 14 at 4:46 PM. She was supposed to board a connecting flight TK-774 to Muscat at 6:30 PM the same day.
Family members discovered that she did not board the flight to Muscat, and her tickets indicated that she had requested wheelchair assistance. Unfortunately, they received no information about her luggage or whereabouts from airport or airline officials.
In a message to the embassy, Telangana’s Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao noted that Rajshree had gone to the USA in 2022 to pursue a Master of Science degree. Since her father’s passing, she had been struggling with depression.
The Chief Secretary expressed the family’s concerns for her safety and requested state government assistance. He provided contact numbers for Rajshree’s acquaintances in the USA and her family in Telangana.
The state government urged the embassy to coordinate with local police, airport, and airline officials to take necessary steps to locate Rajshree in Istanbul.
According to Rajshree’s mother, Dudipala Jyoti, her daughter’s mobile phone is switched off. She had sent a message to her mother before boarding the flight in Houston.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Kiran Kumar Chamala expressed his deep concern about Rajshree’s situation on the social media platform X. He stated that he has raised the issue with relevant authorities and is personally coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian embassy in Istanbul, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to locate the missing woman and provide her with all possible assistance.
Chamala mentioned, “Every effort is being made through official and diplomatic channels to gather information about her travel status and safety. I am closely monitoring the situation and remain in constant contact with the relevant authorities.”
