Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau Arrests Village Development Officer for Bribery

Jaipur, June 15: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a Village Development Officer (VDO) in Bundi for accepting a bribe of ₹50,000. This operation was conducted on Monday under the directives of ACB headquarters.

According to ACB Director General Govind Gupta, the accused, Mukesh Kumar, is a resident of Jaisthal village in the Gendoli police station area of Bundi district. He is currently serving as the VDO for the Gardada Gram Panchayat under the Bundi Panchayat Samiti.

Kumar is accused of soliciting a bribe related to the payment process for a public water source construction project. A complaint received by the ACB alleged that he was harassing the complainant and demanding approximately ₹4.5 lakh in exchange for releasing payments for construction work done by the complainant’s firm, Taru and Company, in the Gardada Gram Panchayat.

After confirming the complaint, a trap was set up under the supervision of Omprakash Meena, Deputy Inspector General of the ACB Kota Range. The operation was led by Premchand, Deputy Superintendent of Police for ACB Bundi.

During the operation, Kumar was caught red-handed accepting the bribe amount of ₹50,000 from the complainant. He initially concealed the money in his pocket outside his rented accommodation. However, upon noticing the ACB team approaching, he attempted to destroy evidence by throwing the cash onto the street.

The accused has been taken into custody, and interrogation and other legal formalities are being carried out under the oversight of Smita Srivastava, Additional Director General of ACB, and S. Parimala, Inspector General of ACB.

A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigations are ongoing.
