Amaravati, July 30: The YSR Congress Party claimed on Thursday that the anti-poor agenda of the coalition government led by Chandrababu Naidu in Amaravati has been revealed. It has become evident that the government did not request a single house for the poor under the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme in the state capital.
In a statement, the YSRCP noted that in response to questions raised by its MPs, Maddila Gurumurthy in the Lok Sabha and Meda Raghunath Reddy in the Rajya Sabha, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs disclosed that the Andhra Pradesh government had not sought any houses for poor families under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 in the Amaravati capital region.
The central government indicated that Andhra Pradesh had received approval for 61,084 houses with a central assistance of ₹882.32 crores under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0. In a recent meeting of the Central Approval and Monitoring Committee on June 17, 2026, an additional 12,370 houses were approved for 107 urban local bodies across the state with a central assistance of ₹185.55 crores. However, proposals for Amaravati were deliberately excluded by the state government.
The central government clearly stated that the approvals under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 are entirely based on the proposals submitted by the state government. The YSR Congress asserted that the truth is now evident. The Naidu government did not request a single house for the poor in Amaravati.
The party raised concerns about the true intentions regarding Amaravati. If proposals could be sent for 107 towns and cities, why were no homes requested for the poor in the capital city? Does Chandrababu Naidu believe that Amaravati is only for the wealthy, influential individuals, and real estate speculators? Is there no place for laborers, daily wage earners, marginalized groups, and middle-class families in the capital?
The coalition government has repeatedly claimed that Amaravati belongs to everyone. However, their actions tell a different story. The YSR Congress accused the government of making it clear that their vision for Amaravati is not as a ‘people’s capital’ but as a capital designed for the interests of the affluent and large-scale real estate profits.
The responses given in Parliament have exposed the TDP government’s dual approach. On one hand, the government is spending thousands of crores to portray Amaravati as a world-class capital, while on the other, it has deliberately deprived the poorest families of the opportunity to secure homes in that very city.
