New Delhi, August 26: Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi announced that positive progress has been made in discussions with Iran regarding the establishment of a temporary maritime corridor in the Hormuz Strait. This initiative aims to restore safe shipping routes.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Al Busaidi stated, “I had a positive and constructive conversation with my colleague Dr. Araqchi in Tehran. I hope we will soon announce practical arrangements for a temporary maritime corridor and the restoration of safe navigation in the Hormuz Strait.”
He emphasized that further work will be done on the future management and permanent solutions for the Hormuz Strait, as referenced in Article 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum. Al Busaidi noted that discussions with regional partners will continue, promoting peace, cooperation, stability, and the free and safe movement of maritime routes.
Iran’s current Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi also highlighted the importance of addressing regional issues during talks with representatives from Pakistan and Oman.
In a post on ‘X’, Araqchi remarked, “Iran’s commitment to peace and stability is as strong as its ongoing diplomatic efforts with neighboring countries. Discussions with representatives from Pakistan and Oman underscored that regional problems should be resolved collectively by the countries in the region.”
He added that the proposed framework for new maritime corridors in the Hormuz Strait, along with joint mine-clearing efforts, exemplifies this collaborative approach.
