New Delhi, August 31: Ghulam Ahmed Mir, the Tamil Nadu Congress in-charge, has responded to the FIR filed against Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and the campaign by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to present Vijay as a prime ministerial candidate.
Mir stated, “It’s like the thief scolding the policeman. The entire nation has felt this. When Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, a prominent and respected Dalit leader, held a rally followed by a purification program, the country took notice. As soon as he mentioned it in Parliament, I believe the entire nation became aware.”
He added, “Whether it’s BJP members, RSS, or their supporters, all must have felt astonished and concerned. How can such actions be taken against a respected leader on this land? There was an emotional outcry across the country. Rahul Gandhi referenced the Constitution, emphasizing that everyone has the right to speak, and that the Constitution grants respect and dignity to all. The person responsible for such actions should face an FIR, but the organized filing of an FIR against Rahul Gandhi after his press conference reflects BJP’s weakness. They have not taken any courageous steps; rather, this indicates internal weakness. Several NDA leaders have also commented on this.”
Regarding Congress Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy’s statement that Islam is superior to other religions, Mir remarked, “We believe that every individual, regardless of their religion, should practice their faith and respect all other religions. This is our upbringing. We do not delve into what others have said or the context of their statements. Our straightforward principle is to follow our own religion and respect others.”
On the campaign by the TVK to present Chief Minister Vijay as a prime ministerial candidate, he stated that every party has the right to promote itself, but it is the public that will ultimately decide who will lead the country.
