New Delhi, September 28 (Daily Kiran) : Central Labor Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted the necessity for India to adapt its labor and social security systems to meet the demands of a changing economy. Speaking on September 28, he underscored the significant opportunities emerging from artificial intelligence (AI) and other modern technologies.
Dr. Mandaviya stressed the importance of equipping India’s youth with skills related to AI, automation, and robotics. He referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech in 2026, where the Prime Minister announced plans to train one crore young people in AI-related skills within a year.
During the inauguration of the ‘National Conference on Industrial Relations and Labor and Awards 2026,’ organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Employers Federation of India (EFI), the minister also pointed out the progress made in social security coverage over the past decade. He noted that in 2015, only 19% of the population was covered by social security, a figure that has now risen to over 101 crore people, or approximately 68% of the population, as recognized by the International Labour Organization (ILO).
Dr. Mandaviya called for a shift in the outdated mindset that views policies favoring industries as anti-labor and those benefiting workers as anti-industry. He urged both industries and employees to collaborate in nation-building.
To raise awareness about labor codes, the Ministry of Labor has launched a significant campaign named ‘Labor Dialogue.’ This initiative aims to include industrial sectors across 316 districts in all 36 states and Union Territories within the next 90 days.
The minister emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue among all stakeholders to strengthen industrial relations. He stated, “Where there is dialogue, there is a solution.”
Highlighting India’s impressive GDP growth rate of 7.8%, Dr. Mandaviya noted that the government’s comprehensive economic policies have played a crucial role in maintaining robust growth. He pointed out that from 2017 to 2023, every 1% increase in GDP resulted in a 1.11% rise in employment, a significant improvement compared to the previous rate of just 0.008%.
