Mumbai, August 31: Shiv Sena spokesperson Krishna Hegde has sharply criticized Rahul Gandhi regarding the Haldwani controversy, demanding that he apologize to the nation. Hegde also responded to AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi’s comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi receiving a prestigious award in Uzbekistan.
Hegde stated, “Rahul Gandhi played the Dalit card in Haldwani to undermine the ongoing sanitation campaign. He attempted to exploit the situation by claiming that Dalits are being insulted and treated unjustly. His allegations of purification activities are unfounded.”
He further emphasized that Gandhi accused the Dalits and the organizers of the Ram Leela event of disrespect, asserting that he must apologize to the country for these claims. Hegde refuted Gandhi’s suggestion that an FIR should be filed against local Dalit youths, stating, “We reject this notion.”
Hegde accused Gandhi of disrespecting the Ram Leela event organizers, asserting that he used Dalits for political gain, which led to local Dalit youths filing an FIR against him.
Regarding the closure of madrasas in Uttarakhand, Hegde noted, “The Uttarakhand government has mandated that all madrasas obtain government recognition. Over 250 madrasas have received this recognition, but around 200 have yet to comply. This has created a situation where these madrasas may face closure.”
He assured that the government would ensure that affected children would be transferred to other schools, safeguarding their education and future. The government has given madrasas time to re-register; failure to do so may result in action.
Prime Minister Modi was recently honored with a prestigious award in Uzbekistan. In response to Owaisi’s remarks, Hegde remarked, “Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi always try to politicize every issue. Prime Minister Modi has received top honors from 40 countries, with Uzbekistan being one of them. It seems Owaisi is stuck in the past. If he needs a history lesson, Babur was born in 1483, and both Uzbekistan and Tashkent were significant parts of the USSR. India has had business ties with the USSR for decades.”
Earlier, he commented on RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement made to around 5,000 people at Madison Square in New York, where Bhagwat asserted that a Hindu is inherently secular and possesses a broad mindset. “A Hindu never thinks that there will be no Muslims in India; rather, a Hindu believes in humanity, which is the highest principle,” Hegde stated.
He also emphasized the need for Indians living abroad to work for the country’s welfare and remain united, praising Bhagwat’s powerful message. Hegde recalled that during Operation Sindoor, people of all religions stood together in India.
