Dehradun, June 3: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, will embark on a two-day visit to Uttarakhand from June 4-5. His visit has sparked renewed enthusiasm among state Congress workers and supporters. The Congress party views this as a crucial step to strengthen its organization and prepare for the 2027 assembly elections.
Kumari Shelja, in charge of Uttarakhand Congress, held a press conference regarding Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Almora and the state government. The highlight of his trip will be a large public rally in Almora, attracting people from remote areas. Despite complaints of traffic jams and chaos, the growing excitement among the public is seen as a positive sign for Congress.
Gandhi is also set to engage with ex-servicemen in Pauri, where discussions are expected to cover topics such as the Agnipath scheme, One Rank One Pension, and the taxation of ex-servicemen’s pensions. Ex-servicemen and youth are considered significant voter bases in Uttarakhand. Following the dialogue, Gandhi will address a crucial meeting with state leaders, officials, and workers.
Kumari Shelja mentioned that a meeting with party officials is also planned in Dehradun. This visit is anticipated to be a turning point for the party, infusing new energy into the workers and strengthening the organization.
She criticized the government, claiming that no substantial development has occurred in the state. Many areas, including Almora, still lack adequate roads and basic facilities. The party believes the public desires change, and Gandhi’s visit will be a significant step towards a people’s movement against the government’s “misrule and corrupt policies.” Preparations for the Almora rally and Pauri event are in full swing, with a focus on security, traffic management, and venue arrangements.
The visit presents an opportunity for the party to expand its reach in rural and hilly areas. During his two-day stay, Gandhi will address both local and national issues. This trip is viewed as part of Congress’s strategy ahead of the 2027 Uttarakhand assembly elections.
